Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June 2022

The day started damp and cloudy, but approximately 70 walkers, runners and horse riders set off on a jaunt around the parish, returning several hours later triumphant, and were rewarded with a Jubilee rosette. On their return at lunch time, curries were provided by Tadley Muslims Service Society, which were much appreciated.

During the afternoon, the Baughurst Jubilee Tea Party swung into full force. We were fortunate in receiving grants from Bewley Homes plc, and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, which enabled the provision of a Puppetree Punch and Judy show; First Responders for the walk; rosettes for those who participated, the remainder of which were given to children at the event; Rock Choir Newbury, and the U3A Ukelele and Guitar groups.

The sun came out, and hordes of people came along to enjoy both the excellent cakes, with tea and coffee, provided by the WI, Trefoil Guild and Heath End Hall committee, whilst watching the entertainment provided throughout the afternoon. This included Dancephaze, who have now entertained us for three Jubilees in a row! Other entertainments included stalls by Baughurst Scout and Guide Group, and Messy Play with Jo Rhoades-Walkley. All profits will go to charity.

In the evening, the Hall provided free screening of the ‘Party at the Palace’ on the big screen, with a hog roast as part of the proceedings, and the event was a sell out.

Sunday saw a Service of Thanksgiving at St Stephen’s church in Baughurst, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr David Leeks and his wife, Amanda. The church have held a Flower Festival over the weekend, with a theme of Save the Planet, which had attracted many visitors.

We think everyone had a great time! All the community came together to help put on the event, and we’d like to thank everyone for their time, commitment and interest – it was very much appreciated.
