Baughurst Parish Council is delighted to confirm that we have secured grant funding from Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council to deliver a series of improvements at The Withies, strengthening its role as a welcoming and meaningful space at the centre of village life.
Recent work has already transformed the area, including the clearing of overgrowth and the planting of five new trees:
• Four double pink hawthorn trees, creating a seasonal backdrop to the War Memorial
• One Japanese cherry tree, adding spring colour and fragrance
The next phase introduces two major enhancements:
• A new glacial boulder feature, formed of seven large stones arranged in a semi circle. Each boulder weighs between 750–1500kg and sits within a specially prepared area. This feature provides natural seating, a place for children to play, and a distinctive gathering point for residents.
• A new oak bench, chosen for its durability and its suitability for a location close to the War Memorial, offering a long lasting and respectful place to pause and reflect.
These improvements are designed to make The Withies a more attractive, accessible, and meaningful place at the heart of the village - a space for gathering, reflection, play, and community connection
